Final Video!

Here is the final video of our working roller coaster...

Final Pictures!

Here is the final picture of our roller coaster. Sorry it took so long to put it up, but we had to decorate it right before our presentation because there were a lot of decorations and tons of pink sugar. So without further ado, here it is!

Cotton Candy?

We also wanted to have cotton candy, so we dyed some cotton balls pink. Here is a picture of them. Keep in mind, they are not fluffed because we had to flatten them out in order to let them dry properly. We will fluff them and spin them so they look like cotton candy bunches though.

It kinda almost looks like pink jerky, but we promise it will look proper by the time we're done with it.

Lollipops & Pastries

Here are some of the decorations that we made by plasticine. The lollipops and the little pastries were ALL MADE BY HAND....NOT BOUGHT!! We couldn't find any of those big swirly lollipops so we just made some. And the cake slices, cupcakes, ice cream cones, mini lollipops, and candy canes were all made by hand too using, again, plasticine. It took us a while to do them, but they came out well and they will be perfect to use as our decorations.

Items for decorations

Here are some of the items that we used to create our decorations, sans glue gun. Just to note, this project was entirely dependent on our glue gun; it was our lifesaver!! So yes, tons and tons of glue was used to create this project. Here are some of the candies we are using to decorate our roller coaster.

gumballs

jumbo jujubes

peppermints

 gummy bears

watermelon wedges gummies

lemonade lollipops

IT IS DONE!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAHHH!!!!!

Finally, after what seems like a lifetime, our track for the roller coaster is finished. AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!! It is complete with 5 loops and 3 different mediums used to built it. It is such a releif do have it done, because it literally took us forever. So, after much anticipation, here it is....

OUR ROLLER COASTER!!!!!
(sans the decor)

Gingerbread House!!!

Here is our ever so cute and delicious gingerbread house that we shall be using as part of our decorations....

Isn't he cute?

Almost there....

So we are almost at the end of our track for our roller coaster. It works pretty well, and it is (currently) totally consistent. It was hard to do the double loop at the end, and we didn't think that we'd be able to make it, but we did! The loop sizes vary, with our smallest being 5cm in diameter and the biggest being almost 9cm in diameter. So here's a video of where we are right now. Oh, and the decorations are also being created. We'll put up pictures of those in about an hour.

So here it is...

Beginning the decorations...

So by now, you know that our theme is Candyland. Hence, our decorations are quite reminiscent of candyland. Here are some pictures of what we've built so far.

This is a candy carousel that we made, and you can see the gummy bears on the ride.

This is the candy tree.

Stage 2...

Here is what our current roller coaster looks like. We ran out of tubing, so we found these long, thin wooden rods that worked really well for the track. So far, we have used 3 types of materials for our track; thick plastic tubing, thin & flexible plastic tubing, and wooden rods.

Current Coaster

Here is our current roller coaster. It works, and we took a video to prove it.

Second Recent.....

This is a picture of our roller coaster 2 weeks ago. As you can see, it looks quite unimpressive but we were having a hard time with it and it was mostly just experimenting, to see what we could do with it. It was our "rough copy" of the roller coaster, or so to speak.

More beginnings...

These are all pictures of when we began the roller coaster, which was about 3 weeks ago. These are pictures from Rebecca's camera too.

This is Ilda working on the track....we had to lay down books on the tubing to try and flatten it and to keep it from twisting.

This is what the board looked like after we spray painted it.

This is a picture of Rebecca's hands covered with silicone. After we realized that you needed gloves when using the silicone, otherwise it would stick to your skin like crazy, it was too late and resulted in the following...

Old Version....

Hey sir, this is a picture of our very first progress of our roller coaster, you'll see gradual changes as we put the rest up. These ones are fuzzy because we took them with Rebecca's camera and the software that she had to upload the pictures wasn't working so she had to take a picture of the picture in her camera screen, so yea. But the others get better

The Chordettes - Lollipop

Beginning the decorations...

Ok, so we are now beginning to discuss and create our decorations for the roller coaster. We are pretty much done the track and we are doing our sign.

Monday 2 May 2011

materials....

Just though that I should include a list of the materials that we used....
- metal rods & corresponding bolts
- hooks
- corkboard
- thin plastic tubing
- thick plastic tubing (for the walls)
- sowing pins to hold the track
- metal wires
- a LOT of glue gun glue
- spray paint
- silicone

OUR LOOPS WORK!!

Ok so after about a million trials, our 2 loops finally work! I got it on video. We had trouble in the beginning because we had to get enough speed for the ball to make the loops, and then we had to adjust the loop diameters because they were too big. But after a while, we actually got them to work. It was also hard doing the turn, because the ball had a bad tendency to fall off the track at u-turns, so we had to built a small wall-type thing to keep the ball on track. I have a video and a couple of pictures and I'll post those tomorrow,ok? Good.
